Hey y’all and welcome back. This post is dedicated to a few terms that I may have already used or will use in the future that may be confusing or foreign to some of you. These are some very common terms and phrases used within the fashion industry and it’s important to understand them so you don’t get lost in all the exciting content. I want everyone to take something away from my posts, so naturally, I’m going to give y’all a little lesson into my world.

Fashion: The overarching concept. Fashion is the way in which trends, styles, and dress is used to create art representative of the designer or society. Fashion is culture. Over centuries, fashion has been used to illustrate the world around it. Just as a painter uses their skill to express their perception of their world, a fashion designer will do the same with their designs.
Style: This is self expression through your clothing. Style can be used in many forms, but ultimately, it refers to your own personal style that you share with the world. It’s important to be as you as possible, because that’s what makes fashion fun. The individuality of it all.
Trend: These are things in fashion that are popular and new. A trend tends to be mistaken for a fad, but these are not the same. Fads are the latest garments, styles, or ideas that only gain a temporary popularity and last a very short time in the fashion industry. Usually, for only one season. Whereas a trend is something that is new and popular like a fad, but will most likely last much longer because of its popularity. It’s understandable to confuse the two, but it’s important to know the difference.
Dress: No, I’m not referring to a literal dress lol, rather the concept described as the total arrangement of all outwardly detectable modifications of the body itself and all material objects added to it. In other words, dress includes not only clothing, but all accessories, hairstyles, and any other alterations made to the body, temporary or otherwise.
I hope that these term breakdowns will help put my posts in perspective for you guys, because one of my biggest objectives is to make my content as relatable as possible and I don’t want to lose that message due to a fashion language barrier. If you have any questions or need some more definitions, please comment and let me know what's on your mind. I hope you all come back soon.
