Please Stare at My Ankles

Hey y’all, welcome back to Na’keilStyles. I wanna talk to you guys about one of my favorite fashion trends to date. Socks.

I know that before this post, you probably thought that the only purpose of a sock was to absorb moisture and create a layer of separation between you and your shoe. However, I am here to tell you that socks are a subte fashion statement that can add some fun character to your entire look. A lot of times in fashion, the main pieces of a styled look are much more basic and simple than you think. The key is adding subtle staple pieces that look to give it more character or flavor. In my case, I usually add that flavor with my shoes and my socks.

I have dedicated the largest drawer in my bedroom dresser to house all of my socks and I can’t help but accumulate more. The idea is that socks are commonly overlooked, because most people see them as just an undergarment. But, brands like Happy Socks, Stance, and Soxy are innovating sock styles that draw attention to the flash of an ankle, rather than overlooking it. A simple added flare can transform an outfit into an entirely different look or style.

Personally, I’m so happy this has become a lasting trend. I have been infatuated with fun socks for years and would always wear them to match my outfit even if no one could see them. It’s become such a common theme to my style that my friends talk about my socks and have even given me their opinion on which pair would go best with my outfits.

Recently, I had gone to an event on my campus called the Black Male Summit. It’s a wonderful event that spans over one weekend that consists of speeches, breakout sessions, and luncheons dedicated to the preservation of social and economic advancement for young black men. While it is a wonderful learning and networking experience, it is also a great opportunity to wear a good suit and show out in the most professional way possible.

At the event, I had worn a pair of my favorite socks that I don’t get to wear very often. A deep navy blue sock with light baby blue polka dots. At first, I thought they would overdo my look, but I received several compliments on my outfit as a whole and my socks specifically, so that thought faded as quickly as it came.

I use fun sock styles to make a very simple look much more intriguing than it really is, but no one was the wiser of my trick until now. I told you all one of my secret style hacks, so I hope you take it and use it to your advantage.
